Join naturalist Aimee Gelinas M.Ed, Director and co-founder of the Tamarack Hollow Nature & Cultural Center on a Winter Ecology Hike (or Snowshoe-snow conditions permitting) through Northwest Park. Participants will learn how to observe and identify wildlife tracks and patterns, signs of wildlife such as scent markings, scat and other wildlife activity that gives a glimpse into the lives of wildlife that stay active in winter. Along the way, participants will learn how to identify evergreen and deciduous trees in winter by bark, buds and branching patterns plus evergreen ferns and plants. Exploring the woods in winter provides an opportunity to understand how fauna and flora adapt to the cold. This program is sponsored by The Friends of Northwest Park.
If snow conditions permit, bring your own snowshoes if you have them. Snowshoes will be available for participants to borrow for an additional $5 (cash only due day of program). Please wear winter boots for equipment to fit properly.
